Life with Wild and Crazy Boys!

Life is always interesting with these wild and crazy boys! It's funny, Adam will be 4 in July, and he's pretty much just started being a climber. He was never afraid of doing new things (like he would go up to the top of the McDonalds playgrounds from about 1 and a 1/2 on), but he didn't climb everything, like the furniture, etc. That has all changed... Last night he discovered that he could climb the little bush in our backyard, and he was having a blast climbing in it. Of course, being a boy, he was trying to shave the bark off the tree with his hands. But, it brought back memories of all the time I used to spend climbing the big tree in our backyard. I don't know how old I was when I started doing it, but I can't believe mom let me do it. I guess I'll have to lighten up a bit when Adam gets old enough to climb the big trees :-).

Now Andrew, on the other hand, is a climber from the very beginning. I've caught him climbing up Adam's stepstool to his bed. He tries to climb up everything. I've really got to keep a good eye on him!
He is also very picky when it comes to food. Like I said in yesterday's post, he didn't like his birthday cake. Yesterday I took the boys to Costco, and we got a frozen yogurt. He didn't like that either. However, he LOVES my spaghetti (gramma's recipe). I'm including a picture of him eating it this week. He also liked the Smoked Sausage and potato wedges that we grilled last night.

Andrew's Birthday

On Monday, we celebrated Andrew's 1st birthday...boy has time flown by! I can't believe it's already been a year since he was born! We spent the weekend with Dan's parent's and had a family birthday party for both Andrew and Tammy (Andrew's cousin) on Memorial Day. I made Andrew's birthday cake. I debated whether I really wanted to take the time to decorate an elaborate cake, but I thought that Andrew might look back on pictures later and wonder why his big brother had a homemade Pooh cake for his first birthday and he had a store bought cake :-). So, I made Andrew a Pooh cake also...and I'm glad I did. I had fun doing it. Julie (Dan's sister) brought over Tammy's cake on Sunday after church and we decorated them together with the kids all watching. Here's how the cake turned out...

Anyway, everyone came over about noon for hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats. The kids all played while we were getting the food ready. After dinner, Andrew and Tammy blew out their candles on their cakes. Of course, Andrew needed some help with that from his big brother, but he looked interested in the candle. Then they opened presents. Andrew got some balls, a walker, a Little People bus, and a Leapfrog steering wheel. He didn't get to play with the toys too much, because his cousins took them over :-). He didn't care. The funniest part was when we gave him a piece of cake. At his cousin Ricky's birthday party two weeks earlier, Dan had fed Andrew some cake and ice cream, and he liked it, so we thought he'd have a blast feeding himself some cake. However, Ricky's cake was white, and I made Pooh chocolate. Apparently Andrew doesn't like chocolate cake!! He was picking at the frosting, so I took a spoon and gave him a taste of the cake part to get him started as to what it was. He spit it out and wouldn't eat anymore! He was more interested in playing with the spoon. I'm sure he'll grow to love my chocolate cakes, though :-). I'm going to include some more birthday pictures below...
